  • 1914 Artist Faik Hassan born in the Baghdad, in an area called Al-Haydar Khan, his father died when he was young so his maternal uncle, who worked as a gardener in the royal court gardens, took care of him.
  • 1920 He studied in several schools, including Al-Baroudia Elementary School, Al-Haidariya Schools, and then Al-Owainah.
  • As a young child, Faik Hassan was fond of art and began drawing in the last stage of his elementary education, his uncle Fadil Abdul Ghani encouraged him to develop his talent and was proud of him among his friends. Faik accompanied his uncle from time to time to his workplace in the royal court. By chance, King Faisal I, noticed this child's drawings of landscapes and admired them and encouraged him to continue, even more promised to send him to study art in Europe. This remained a dream entertaining the child in the waking and dreaming. Despite the death of King Faisal I in 1933, King Ghazi committed to the will after two years, and the boy was awarded a scholarship at the expense of the Iraqi government to France. In Paris, Faik applied to the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris, presented his art works and drawings to Professor Roger, who accepted him without hesitation.
  • 1935 He studied art at Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris for three calendar years.
  • 1938 He graduated after he finished the program of the school and obtained a diploma in excellent degree. At the same year he returned to Baghdad, and assigned as an art teacher in the “Teachers Primary School-Baghdad”. Held exhibition in participation with some foreign artists at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad
  • 1939 - 1940 He contributed to the founding of the “Painting Branch” at the Institute of Fine Arts and start teaching painting and sculpturing. In cooperation with theater’s artist Hakki Al-Shibli, they founded the Iraqi Theater.
  • 1941 He participated in the first exhibition of the Friends of Art Association in Baghdad.
  • 1942 He was appointed as a teacher at the “Institute of Fine Arts” and participated in the first annual exhibition of the Institute of Fine Arts.
  • 1943 in cooperation with Jewad Selim, they designed scenes of the play “Al-Watan” and “The Doctor Against his Will”, which were exhibited at the Institute of Fine Arts and participated in the third exhibition of the Friends of Art Association, which was held in the hall of the British Cultural Institute.
  • 1944 He was elected as a member of the Administrative Board of the Friends of Art Association with Akram Shukri, Jewad Selim, Abdel Halim Al-Sunna, Sua’ad Selim, Rose Mary, and Nahida Al-Haidari.
  • 1946 He participated in the sixth exhibition of Friends of Art Association held at the Iraqi Fashion Museum hall.
  • 1948 He was elected as art director of the Popular Chamber of Acting and designed scenes for the play (Martyrs of Patriotism) and participated in the Iraqi exhibition held in Beirut at the UNESCO Hall.
  • 1950 He founded the “Société Primitive” lately named “Pioneers Group”, and participated in all its exhibitions until 1962.
  • 1951 Traveled to France and visited La Bretagne where he first knows French woman Suzanne Côtier.
  • 1952 He was elected as Vice President of the Friends of Art Association, participated in the Ibn Sina Festival, and participated in the exhibition of a group of painters in Dar Baher Faik.
  • September 18, 1953, he married Suzanne Côtier whom she became his wife and the mother of his sole boy.
  • 1953 He participated in the Third Pioneers Exhibition
  • 1955 He held an itinerant art exhibition with Ismail Al-Cheikhli in India. The artist and his wife had a son named Habeel. He won the Dutch Aviation Award at the Baghdad Exhibition for Painting and Sculpture. He became a member of the administrative board of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association.
  • 1957 He participated in the Baghdad Exhibition for Painting and Sculpture that was held at Al-Mansour Club Hall in Baghdad. He held a joint exhibition in Orosdiback stores on Al-Rashid Street in Baghdad. He participated in the Middle East Friends exhibition at UNESCO Hall in Beirut and the second exhibition of the Plastic Artists Association held at the Olympic Club in the Adhamia Youth Center.
  • July - August 1958 He participated with Jewad Selim, Ismail Al-Cheikhli and Khaled Al-Jadir in art exhibitions in Morocco and Tunisia and participated in the exhibition of the Baghdad Exhibition for Painting and Sculpture at Al-Mansour Club and the fifth exhibition of the Pioneers Group held at the Hall of the Institute of Fine Arts.
  • 1961 He was appointed as an art supervisor in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and participated in the second exhibition of the Fine Artists Association at the Hall of the Iraqi Artists Association.
  • 1962 He held his second solo exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East Association in Baghdad and participated in the sixth exhibition of the Pioneers Group at the Institute of Fine Arts.
  • 1963 He became a member of the administrative committee of the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association.
  • 1964 He won the golden award as the best Iraqi artist from the Gulbenkian Foundation and held his third solo exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East American Cultural Center in Baghdad and participated in the sixth exhibition of the Iraqi Artists Association at the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1965 He participated in the traveling drawing exhibition in Beirut and held his fourth solo exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East American Cultural Center in Baghdad. He participated in the seventh exhibition of the Iraqi Artists Association at the National Museum of Modern Art and participated in the Iraqi contemporary art exhibition in “Gallery One” in Beirut.
  • 1966 He held his fifth solo exhibition in the United States of America and participated in the eighth exhibition of the Iraqi Artists Association, which was held at the headquarters of the association.
  • 1967 He founded the “Al-Zawiya Group”, with Kadhim Haider, Muhammad Ghani Hikmat, Ghazi Al-Saudi, Valentinus, and Ismail Fattah. He left the ‘Pioneers Group’ and participated in “Al-Zawiya Group” first exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art and then held his sixth solo exhibition at the Friends of the Middle East American Cultural Center in Baghdad.
  • 1969 He was appointed as Head of the Department of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts.
  • 1971 He held his seventh solo exhibition at the British Studies Center in Baghdad and participated in the second biennale exhibition in Kuwait.
  • 1972 He was honored by the state on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the “ruling party”, along with Hafidh Droubi, Akram Shukri, and Atta Sabri within the Al-Wasiti festival.
  • 1973 He participated in many exhibitions held this year, like the exhibition held at the Iraqi Artists Association. The Iraqi exhibition at the first conference of the World Federation of Arab Artists at the National Museum of Modern Art.   • 1974 He participated in the Iraqi art exhibition within the Iraqi cultural week in Egypt, the Iraqi artists exhibition at the French Cultural Center and the first Iraqi art exhibition in Baghdad.
  • 1975 He became the Chairman of the National Committee for Fine Arts and participated in the Iraqi Art Exhibition in Algeria, and the second exhibition held in the occasion of the anniversary of the “ruling party” at the Iraqi Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1976 He completed and installed many art works in different buildings in Baghdad, including two oil works for the headquarters of the offices of the Central Bank of Iraq, which later deemed as an image in front of Iraqi paper currency. He became vice president of the International Fine Arts Association and head of the Iraqi delegation at the eighth conference of the International Association of Fine Arts in Baghdad. Participated in the exhibition of the ‘’Tel Al-Zaatar Epic’’ in the Iraqi Museum of Art Modern. The itinerant Iraqi art exhibition in Europe. The second Arab biennial exhibition at the Oudaya Museum in Rabat in Morocco. The third exhibition of anniversary of “the ruling party” at the National Museum of Modern Art. And the international exhibition against racial discrimination in the same museum
  • 1977 He was inaugurated as an honorary president of the Iraqi Plastic Association. His comprehensive honorary exhibition was held at the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1978 He participated in the fifth exhibition of the anniversary of the ruling party at the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1979 He participated in the Iraqi Art exhibition in Italy, And the sixth Party exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1980 He participated in the seventh exhibition of anniversary of the ruling party at the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1981 He traveled to Paris because he was chosen as a member of the international poster jury and traveled to Cuba to attend the UNESCO conference and participated in the eighth exhibition of anniversary of the ruling party at the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • June 17, 1982 He was referred to retirement and traveled to Nigeria after three months to attend the UNESCO conference and participated in the ninth exhibition of anniversary of the ruling party in Baghdad and the Iraqi plastic Art exhibition in Ottawa, Canada.
  • 1982 He participated in the second Al-Wasiti Festival in Baghdad.
  • 1983 He traveled to Finland to attend the UNESCO conference and participated in the Iraqi Artists exhibition at the French Cultural Center in Baghdad and the tenth exhibition of anniversary of the ruling party.
  • 1984 He won the knight medal in the arts and literature from France and was appointed as the head of the Iraqi National Committee for Fine Arts and participated in the eleventh exhibition of anniversary of the ruling party.
  • 1985 He participated in the 12th exhibition of anniversary of the ruling party.
  • At the end of the eighties, he showed symptoms of disease that seemed to be exacerbated little by little, and the doctors attributed it to his addiction to smoking the pipe, which was not separated from him, and the smell of oil-soluble substances.
  • He traveled to Paris with his family for treatment, and at 1990 the Republican Guards army of Iraq invaded the State of Kuwait, and at 1991 the military operations began against the Iraqi army, and after that, the suffocating international siege so it was impossible for him to return to Iraq.
  • 1992, the artist passed away in Paris at the age of seventy-eight years, and it was said that he wanted to be cremated and his ashes to be buried in Baghdad, because it was impossible to transfer his body to Iraq as a result of military operations and the conditions of the international blockade on Iraq.
