  • 1926 Born in Baghdad.
  • 1946–51 Studied architecture at the University of California, Berkeley.
  • After graduating, he returned to Baghdad and established his architectural firm in partnership with architect Adnan Zaki Amin and later Abdel Sattar Ayach.
  • Designed several buildings in different cities in Iraq, considered some of the most prestigious models of modern Iraqi architecture, including: Salman Faik Hospital, Al-Alwiya (1956); Naji Jawad Al-Saati Building, Al-Saadoon (1962); Abdul Karim Qasim Secondary School for Girls, Essaouira (1962); Al-Mustansiriya University, Baghdad (1963–66); National Electric Power Building Co., Al-Midan district, Baghdad (1965); General Trade Corporation, Karradat Maryam (1967); and Insurance Building near Al-Tayaran Square (1968).
  • Started practicing painting at the university and was a member of the Baghdad Group for Modern Art with Jewad Selim, Shakir Hassan, Kalid Al-Rahhal and others. He also participated in its exhibitions in Iraq. He tended to abstraction in his drawings and was one of the pioneers of modernity in Iraq, in the fields of both architecture and art.
