  • Iraqi painter born on Jan. 1st, 1932 in Baghdad, Iraq. In 1935, lost his mother at the birth of his sister and was raised by his uncle. He was interested in art from the age of 4.
  • 1951 Studied literature in high school and held a solo exhibition.
  • 1952 - 1953 Graduated and worked as a teacher in Maysan but left his work to join IFA, Baghdad.
  • From 1953 onwards, held many solo exhibitions inside and outside Iraq.
  • From 1955 onwards, participated in many group exhibitions inside and outside Iraq.
  • 1957 Graduated from the High Teachers College and IFA, Baghdad.
  • 1959 - 1962 Obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Central School of Art, London.
  • 1962 Returned to Iraq and taught at IFA and then at AFA, Baghdad.
  • 1965 Held a solo exhibition entitled “The Martyr” at Gulbenkian Hall of INMMA, Baghdad.
  • 1967 Joined Al-Zawiya Group.
  • Appointed as General Secretary of the Union of Arab Visual Artists and gave a speech at its conference.
  • 1983 Discovered that he has leukemia.
  • 1984 Held a solo exhibition at the Iraqi Cultural Center in London, in which he displayed 39 paintings from 1958 until 1984. The last paintings represented a shift in his artistic style, with expressions of his suffering from the disease and the crushing pain of the body.
  • Dec. 23rd, 1985 Passed away at the age of fifty-three and was buried in Baghdad, Iraq.
