1924 Artist Jamil Hamoudi was born in the capital, Baghdad, in Iraq
Jamil Hamoudi is considered the pioneer of the "Arabic Hourofia” school, who has worked on it since the beginning of the forties of the twentieth century.
1942 He became a member of the Friends of Art Association in Baghdad.
1944 He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and at the same time was giving art and history lessons at a school in Baghdad.
1945 He graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts and appointed as Editor-in-Chief and director of publication for the magazine "Modern Thought".
1946 He was appointed as Secretary General of the Friends of Art Association, and he supervised and participated in the Modern Thought exhibition in the Hall of Fashion Museum in Baghdad.
1947 He was granted a scholarship to France to complete his studies at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris (Beaux Arts) and he did several researches on the subject of “Assyrian-Babylonian languages and art”. He studied the art as well, at the Académie Julian and studied art history at the Louvre School.
1950, 1952 He held solo exhibition at Parisian Galleries.
1953 He have been enrolled at the University of Paris - Faculty of Arts (the Sorbonne) to study "Abstract Origins in Ancient Iraqi Art">
1955 He published several poems in French titled "Dreams from the East" and founded a publishing house in Paris called Ashtar.
1958 He founded "Ashtar Magazine - East and West" and the Ishtar Art and Cultural Club.
1962 He settled in Baghdad and remained in constant and close relationship with his acquaintances and friends in Paris and always traveling to it.
1965 He held an exhibition at the Al-Wasiti hall in Baghdad.
1971 He became a member of the One Dimensional Group
1973 He participated in the second exhibition of the “One Dimension Group” in Baghdad and the fifteenth exhibition of the Plastic Artists Association at the Plastic Artists Association.
1974 He participated in the cultural festival of Al-Thawra newspaper in Baghdad
1986 He held a solo exhibition at the National Museum of African Arts in Paris and participated in the International Festival of Plastic Art in Baghdad.
1989 He retired and founded the Inana House of Art in Baghdad.
1997 He held a solo exhibition of oil paintings at Athar Gallery in Baghdad.
1998 He held a solo exhibition of watercolors at Aba’ad Gallery in Baghdad and from 01 to 15 November, a retrospective exhibition was held at the Sharjah Museum in the Emirates.
2000 He held a solo exhibition at Al-Riwaq Gallery in Baghdad.
He participated in artworks; paintings, sculptures and graphic art in many collective exhibitions and organized exhibitions of French artists and from the Arab world in Paris from 1950 to 1962 alongside his solo exhibitions.
He received the highest French Medal of Arts and Literature from the French state, and in 2001 he was also awarded the French Medal of Honor.
2003 The artist passed away in Baghdad at the age of seventy-nine years
