  • 1925  Artist Nouri Al-Rawi was born in a town called Rawa in Anbar Province, west of Iraq>
  • 1933 He studied in the elementary school in the city of Anah, and his penchant for literature and art began to be evident in school activities, as he was the school's painter and speaker.
  • 1936 He completed his middle school education in Baghdad at Al-Karkhiya School
  • 1937 His inclinations for poetry and literature were clear, and he tried to write poetry and excelled in writing prose poetry, and it is believed that he was the first to try that at the level of the Arab world. He wrote several literary articles for newspapers and magazines inside Iraq, such as “Al-Rafidain” and “Al-Manahil” and then in some Arab magazines such as “Al-Amani”, “Al-Irfan” and “Al-Adeeb” that are published in Beirut and in parallel for the Egyptian magazine “Al-Risala”; he issued in 1940 under the title “The Art Is Waking Up.” Then he worked in the secretariat of editing in a magazine called “New Iraq” and “Al-Riwaq” magazine issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Guidance, Culture and Information.
  • 1941 He studied and graduated from the Teachers Institute in Baghdad, and was appointed as a teacher at the Western School and then in Ramadi High School
  • 1952 He founded the first page specializing in art during the royal era in "Al-Zaman, Al-Akhbar and Sawt Al-Ahrar" newspapers.
  • 1953 A friendship began between the well-known artist and poet Badr Shaker Al-Sayyab. The friendship between them became closer and they participated in translating and publishing writings on the biographies of the Impressionist artists. In addition to their joint activities through the "Association of Literature and Poetry", where they were interested in learning about the news of contemporary cultures in the Arab world and the world. Al-Sayyab's nationalist positions were the reason for his clash with the cadres of the Communist Party, which led to his arrest in 1959, Al-Rawi and lawyer Muhammad Al-Abta intervened to secure him and remove him from detention. And through Nori al-Rawi, Al-Sayyab's relationship with the Iraqi artistic community was established and strengthened, and the house of the architect, Qahtan al-Madfai, was a regular one for such meetings and cultural dialogues.
  • 1956 He joined the Iraqi Plastic Artists Association
  • 1957 He worked as a presenter on plastic arts programs on Iraq TV for a period of up to twenty years, and he was one of the most successful programs that educated society about plastic art, its methods, and its masters of international, Arab and Iraqi artists.
  • 1960 He took the initiative and formally called for the allocation of a building for Iraqi plastic art, where a written request was submitted to the Minister of Guidance, Dr. Faisal Al-Samer, with the encouragement of Dr. Taha Baqer Director of Public Antiquities. Meanwhile, the Gulbenkian Foundation was funding some cultural and artistic projects in Iraq at the time. The Foundation took the initiative and provided to the Capital Municipality a new and equipped building to be a center for the arts. Nori Al-Rawi prepared and initialized this building to become the National Museum of Modern Art.
  • 1962 He studied typographic design and montage in Yugoslavia for one year, founded the National Museum of Modern Art that was inaugurated by former President Abdul Karim Qasim and became its first director for twelve years and authored the book "Reflections on Modern Iraqi Art" and the book "Introduction to Iraqi Folklore".
  • 1963 He wrote a book about the late artist Jewad Selim.
  • 1964 He joined the Pioneers Group.
  • 1965 He wrote a book about the modern German art.
  • 1966 He compiled the book "Iraq in Pictures".
  • 1967-1969 He joined the Iraqi Artists Syndicate and traveled to several countries to study several topics related to the organization and management of museums, restoration and maintenance of artworks, and one of them was Portugal.
  • 1968 He participated in the exhibition "The Battle" in the hall of the National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.
  • 1972 An order was issued to appoint him by the Ministry of Culture as Director of Art Exhibitions in the Public Arts Directorate, and he remained in this position for seven years and participated in the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition at the Hall of the National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.
  • 1973 He participated in the fifteenth exhibition of the Plastic Artists Association in the hall of the Plastic Artists Association in Baghdad and became a member of the Iraqi National Committee for Arts (IAP) affiliated with UNESCO.
