- 1940 - 1943 He studied art at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
- 1946 Held his 1st solo exhibition in Paris, France where he moved to live in 1950.
- 1948 - 1949 Co-founded Reflex and Cobra movements with other artists and poets.
- 1962 Held a solo exhibition in New York, USA.
- 1980 - 1987 Participated in many Cobra exhibitions inside and outside France.
- Sept. 5th 2010 Passed away at the age of 88 in Auvers-sur-Oise, France.
