1929 Azad Shawqi was born into a family of Iraqi Kurds in Erbil, Iraq.
1955 Graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad, and received his artistic and professional education by Jewad Selim and Faiq Hassan in the founding stages of the Iraqi plastic movement.
1959 He participated in a painting exhibition with artist Khalid Saeed.
1962 He participated in an art exhibition in Democratic Germany.
1965 He held his 1st solo exhibition at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
1973 He held his 2nd solo exhibition at Kurdish Cultural Association in Baghdad, Iraq.
1987 He participated in the 6th Al-Wasiti Festival.
1987 An honorary exhibition was held for him at Al-Rasheed Gallery in Baghdad.
1988 He held his 3rd solo exhibition entitled "Colored Waterfalls" at Al-Riwaq Gallery in Baghdad.
1989 He held his 5th solo exhibition entitled "Memory of the Violet" in Erbil.
1990 He held a solo exhibition in Media Gallery in Erbil.
1992 He held a solo exhibition in the Sulaymaniyah Museum.
1993 & 1997 An honorary exhibition was held for his works by Kurdistan Regional Parliament in Media Gallery in Erbil.
2000 He held a solo exhibition in Erbil, Kurdistan.
Lectured in art education for all levels of education for several years in the city of Sulaymaniyah.
He played a remarkable role in the field of children's drawings and established the first children's theater in Sulaymaniyah.
Founded the first folkloric museum of Kurdish and Iraqi costumes.
2002 The artist passed away in the city of Sulaymaniyah at the age of seventy-three years. And he is considered one of the most important artists of the Kurdish plastic movement of the 60’s generation.
